About Wheeler Peak Summit Trail
Above treeline, the route crosses rocky, wind-swept ground where hikers are fully exposed to the sky. Reaching the top of Nevada's second-tallest summit rewards the effort with a view that spreads across a vast stretch of the Great Basin. Thunderstorms and high winds are common, so starting near dawn and turning back by late morning is wise, and snow can linger on the upper trail into summer.
