About Yellowstone River Overlook
This overlook provides expansive views of the Yellowstone River and the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, including nearby hydrothermal features and steep, columnar basalt cliffs across the river. The gorge and cliffs offer habitat for species such as bighorn sheep and raptors (for example, red-tailed hawks and osprey). For an alternative canyon-edge walk and additional viewpoints of the canyon terminus, the Yellowstone River Picnic Area Trail on the opposite side of the river follows the canyon edge.
