About Devastation Trail
Cinders from the 1959 Kilauea Iki eruption buried this area, and a paved path now winds across barren ground where plants and lava trees are slowly returning. Nēnē, Hawaiian geese, often wander nearby, so watch for them and don't feed them. The route ends at Pu'u Pua'i Overlook, which looks down into the Kilauea Iki crater, and the cinder cone itself is off limits to climbing.
