Windigo and the Island's Western End
Windigo occupies the southwestern corner of Isle Royale, the island's western tip. You can get there by the Voyageur II or the Sea Hunter III, by Isle Royale Seaplanes, or in your own boat or seaplane.

For a day visit, the Sea Hunter III makes day trips to Windigo, giving passengers four hours to explore once they step off the ferry. Isle Royale Seaplanes runs day trip flights there too.
Start at the Windigo Visitor Center, where you can look over displays, browse publications, and pick up a backcountry permit. Staff are on hand to answer questions, and you can check the ranger program schedule there. Boats dock at the Windigo dock, and Windigo also has pump-out service, fuel, showers, laundry, and drinking water.
Relax on the deck of the Washington Harbor Store, or swim in the waters of Washington Harbor, which are usually cold yet refreshing. Trails along the southwest end invite exploring on foot. Washington Creek Campground offers overnight camping.
Visitors who would rather sleep under a roof can stay in the Windigo Camper Cabins, two rustic one-room units that offer a different experience from a tent. Each has a table with chairs, a futon sofa, two bunk beds with mattresses, and electrical outlets. A picnic table and grill sit outside.
Feldtmann Lake Campground lies on the shore of Feldtmann Lake, an inland site reached on foot from the Feldtmann Lake and Feldtmann Ridge trails. It has seven sites, five of them for tents only. For a much longer hike, Greenstone Ridge stretches 42.2 miles from Windigo to Lookout Louise.
