Things to Do in Lassen Volcanic National Park

Summit Lake is another excellent place to relax, with a quieter feel and a broad mountain backdrop, while the park’s small lake and shoreline areas offer some of its best beach-like experiences for wading, resting, and escaping the midday heat. Beyond the lakes, Lassen’s volcanic points of interest give the park its distinct character: Bumpass Hell is the headline hydrothermal basin, with its smoking ground and vividly colored earth, and the Painted Dunes and Fantastic Lava Beds showcase an otherworldly palette of cinders, lava, and erosion-sculpted terrain that feels unlike anywhere else in California.
