North of the Green River: Backcountry Trails
The backcountry trails north of the Green River cover the northern side of the park, with more than 60 miles of trails to explore.

The Green River runs from east to west and meanders through the park. The visitor center sits on the south side, so reaching the north side means crossing on the Green River Ferry, which carries vehicles across.
Many visitors come to the backcountry for a day of hiking and leave the same day. Others stay overnight, choosing from thirteen marked campsites, some of which are paddle-in sites beside the river. Campers can also set up camp at Maple Springs Campground. Campers may also stay within 100 feet of the Green River itself.
Cyclists can ride the Big Hollow Trail, along with the Maple Springs and White Oak trails, all on the north side of the river. Before heading out, ask at the visitor center for printed maps and details on mountain biking.
Carry the ten essentials on every hike, and keep an eye out for ticks, which rank among the more frequent hazards on these trails. Leave No Trace guidelines should shape how you treat the land throughout your visit. Backcountry maps can be picked up at the visitor center or at the Headquarters Campground Kiosk.
