Beating Nisqually and White River Entrance Lines
Traffic backs up at the Nisqually Entrance and the White River Entrance on the park's busiest days, and on the very heaviest summer weekends and holidays the wait at either gate can run longer than an hour.

Nisqually sits in the southwest corner of the park, reached by State Route 706. White River lies on the east side and is approached from State Route 410. If your navigation system needs an address for Nisqually, use 39000 State Route 706 East, Ashford, Washington, 98304, because the park's official street address takes drivers to headquarters in Ashford instead of the gate.
Timing does more than anything else to shorten your wait at the gate. Reaching the entrance before 10 in the morning, or waiting until after 2:30 in the afternoon, keeps you out of the heaviest backups. Midweek trips usually feel quieter than weekend visits, so if your calendar has room, pick a weekday.
Spaces are scarce at many lots, so the parking area you aim for may already be full when you pull in. Early and late arrivals improve your odds of finding an open space. A pass also helps you keep moving. Holding an annual park pass or an interagency pass means less time at the entrance station, which keeps the line flowing. If you'd rather not stop at the window, order an interagency pass online ahead of the trip and have it delivered to your address.
Have a second destination in mind before you leave home, so a slow line at the gate doesn't sink the day. Towns outside the park offer their own sights and activities when crowds build. Nearby terrain managed by the U.S. Forest Service, along with the Crystal Mountain Resort, offers ready alternatives. Much of the park lacks cell coverage, so download the park's section of the NPS App before you go. It works offline and can point you toward other places to explore once you are inside.
