Starting at the Pago Pago Visitor Center
The National Park of American Samoa Visitor Center is in the village of Pago Pago on Tutuila, across from the Pago Way Service Station.

It makes a sensible first stop, where you can grab a park map and put your questions to staff before heading out. The visitor center also has a park store. Think of it as the hub for your visit.
Inside, the bilingual exhibits tell the story of Samoan life, the islands' ecology, and the creatures of the sea. The displays are interactive and give a sense of the park's cultural and natural heritage, from the island's ecosystems to the conservation work that protects them. Reading them first can help you understand what you will see on the trails and reefs.
Park rangers at the visitor center can help you plan a safe visit, from choosing a hike or snorkeling spot. Ask them about the forecast, how the trails are holding up, and when talks and cultural demonstrations take place each day. Young visitors can take home a Junior Ranger booklet, and anyone carrying a National Parks Passport book can have it stamped here.
Much of the park sits in rough terrain far from towns, and its sections on Tutuila, Ta'ū, and Ofu are spread across three islands, so planning ahead pays off. Ask rangers for advice on getting around, or contact the park by phone or email before your trip. The park also offers a visitor guide you can download as a document.
