South Shore Quiet Bays: Lameshur and Saltpond
Little Lameshur Bay and Salt Pond Bay are two good snorkeling options on the south shore of Saint John.

Little Lameshur Beach is remote enough that only a handful of visitors tend to arrive each day. Salt Pond Bay has a long white sand beach and rocky shorelines to explore in the water.
Toward the far western side of Little Lameshur Beach, you will come across what remains of a Danish sugar mill, with the green slopes of Yawzi Point behind it. Great and Little Lameshur bays lie roughly five miles from Coral Bay. The access road is rocky, so four-wheel drive is advised.
The walk from the parking area to Salt Pond Bay covers about a half mile, and the beach and snorkeling over the rocks make the trip worthwhile. Green sea turtles and southern stingrays make their home in the seagrass beds below the mooring field, so keep your eyes open while you swim.
A footpath leads from behind the southeastern shore to the pond itself. Whether sea salt collects along its edges depends on the season, but the pond is a good stop for birdwatching. Hikers wanting more distance can follow the Ram Head Trail, which finishes with a last climb to Ram Head and wide views across the water.
The Drunk Bay Trail is an optional side route off the Salt Pond Bay hike. It fits best at the end of the day, after you have reached Ram Head.
